Saw “Catching Fire” last night, and it blew me away. I’ve read all the books, so I knew what to expect, but this film really managed to capture the dark shadow cast over Katniss and all of Panem in the second book. Kudos to Trish Summerville, the film’s costume designer. Much of the series focuses on the sharp contrast between the gilded Capitol (and the gaudy garments worn there) and the almost post-apocalyptic state of the rest of the country.
During the Victory Tour, newly crowned “celebrities” Katniss and Peeta pay their respects to each District’s fallen tributes. Summerville manages to merge the two worlds of high fashion and mourning garb seamlessly—providing a palette of refined darkness… and inspiration for my dream winter wardrobe.
